Colossians 1 — The Supremacy of Christ and the Hope of Glory
Summary of the Chapter
Colossians 1 opens with gratitude.
Paul thanks God for their faith in Christ Jesus and their love for all God’s people.
Faith and love are rooted in hope.
Not wishful thinking — anchored expectation stored in heaven.
He prays they would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will through all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Colossians 2 — Fullness in Christ and Freedom from Religious Bondage
Summary of the Chapter
Colossians 2 begins with Paul’s deep concern.
He longs for believers to be: Encouraged in heart. United in love. Rich in full assurance of understanding.
Full assurance.
Not fragile faith. Not partial clarity.
So they may know the mystery of God — Christ.
“In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Not scattered. Not divided. Hidden in Him.
Paul warns them:
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow philosophy and empty deception.
Captivity does not always look like persecution. Sometimes it looks like sophistication.

Disconnected from the Head, they lose life.

“If you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why… do you submit to its rules?”
“Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”
Rules appear wise. But lack power. They restrain behaviour. Not heart.

Colossians 3 — Set Your Mind Above and Live from New Identity
Summary of the Chapter
Colossians 3 begins with position. “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ…”
Not if. Since.
Resurrection is not future only. It is present identity.
“Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is.” Focus directs formation.
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Perspective reshapes behaviour.
“For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
Hidden. Secure. Covered.
When Christ appears, you will appear with Him in glory.
Glory is not earned. It is revealed.
Then Paul moves from position to practice.
“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature.”
Sexual immorality. Impurity. Greed. Anger. Slander. Lies.
Not management. Mortification. Why? Because that is who you were.
“You have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self.”

Colossians 4 — Devoted Prayer, Wise Witness, and Steady Mission
Summary of the Chapter
Colossians 4 begins with devotion. “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
Devotion is not occasional. It is continual. Watchful. Alert. Spiritually aware.
Thankful. Not driven by lack, but anchored in gratitude.
Paul asks for prayer for himself: “That God may open a door for our message.”
Even imprisoned, he is not asking for release. He is asking for opportunity.
