Walk Through Obadiah

Obadiah — Pride Exposed, Judgment Declared, and Kingdom Restored
Summary of the Chapter
The vision begins with a declaration from the Lord concerning Edom.
Though Edom feels secure — dwelling in rocky heights, believing themselves untouchable — God speaks plainly:
“Though you soar like the eagle… from there I will bring you down.” Pride builds false altitude.
Edom trusted in geography. Fortified cliffs. Strategic position.
But pride is deeper than location. “The pride of your heart has deceived you.”
Self-exaltation blinds discernment.
Then comes the charge.
Edom stood aloof when Jerusalem was attacked. They did not defend their brother.
They rejoiced in Judah’s misfortune. They looted. They cut down fugitives. They handed over survivors.
Betrayal intensifies judgment.
The Lord declares: “The day of the Lord is near for all nations.”
Justice is not selective. It is universal.
“As you have done, it will be done to you.” Consequences mirror actions.
Yet the prophecy does not end in destruction. “But on Mount Zion will be deliverance.”
Restoration rises where covenant stands.
The house of Jacob will possess its inheritance. The kingdom will be the Lord’s.
Judgment purifies. Restoration belongs to God.
Obadiah reveals:
Pride deceives. Indifference wounds. Justice is certain. Restoration is promised. The Lord reigns.

Encouragement
Sister, Obadiah is sobering — but steadying. If pride ever whispers, humble yourself quickly.
If comparison tempts, remember: Altitude without God is illusion.
But if you have ever been wounded by betrayal — take comfort. God sees.
He defends covenant. He restores inheritance. You do not need to avenge. Justice belongs to Him.
And beyond judgment stands this truth: “The kingdom will be the Lord’s.”
No pride can overthrow it. No betrayal can stop it. No injustice can silence it.
Remain humble. Remain faithful. Remain anchored. The Lord reigns.

- Where might pride or self-reliance be quietly influencing my heart, and what would it look like to humble myself before God in that area?
- Are there times when I am tempted to stand at a distance from someone else’s pain rather than respond with compassion, courage or love?
- Is there a hurt, betrayal or injustice I am still carrying that God is inviting me to release into His hands rather than trying to resolve or avenge myself?
- Where have loss, disappointment or circumstances made something feel final, and how does Obadiah’s promise of restoration encourage me to trust that God can still redeem what has been broken?
- What would change in the way I face my present circumstances if I truly lived from the assurance that “the kingdom will be the Lord’s” and that His purposes cannot ultimately be defeated?

Obadiah reminds us that pride falls, betrayal is seen, justice comes, and restoration belongs to God.
Security without Him collapses. But covenant with Him stands.
The kingdom is not fragile. It is the Lord’s.
And He restores what pride tried to destroy.
